This is the time of year when we take off work and clear out our social calendar and plan to spend time with our family. Love them or just tolerate them – we can’t choose the people that we share DNA with. Our family knows the good, the bad, and that “one time” that we rather not remember.
Related by blood or by marriage, the people you’re spending your holidays with are near and dear to your heart. As we wrap up The 12 Blogs of Christmas, let’s tie a pretty bow on top by giving our all to the ones we love most.
Many of us can go down the list of ways we’ve bent-over-backwards for certain family members. We’ve given up our time, loaned out our money, and lost a little sleep trying to be there for those whom we share a name.
Those things are good and noble. John 15:13 say, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” I believe that God wants us to continue doing all we can to love and take care of one another.
With that, there’s one thing we can do for our family everyday, that costs nothing.
Not just in times of stress or trouble. Not just when they’re steering off course. Pray when times are good. When marriages are stable. When children are healthy. When careers are successful.
John 15:16 says, “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.”
This Christmas, let’s not merely ask God for things. Let’s ask God to cover our family. To bring them into Salvation through Jesus Christ. To give them prosperity. To open doors. To soften their hearts and strengthen their faith. Use your prayers to produce lasting fruit.
Enjoy the holiday’s with your family. Lift them up in prayer. Give them nice gifts and love on them. Time with your family is priceless. Cherish it.
