Shop Small and Give the Gift of Hope

This blog is not sponsored. All opinions are 100% my own.

The holidays are a time when we think less about ourselves and more about giving to others. Some of us spend the entire year trying to find the perfect gift for that special someone. We might also make it a priority to volunteer or donate to an important cause. What if I told you that you could do both? (On your couch, in your jammies… yup, keep reading…)

Between those doorbustin’ sales and the “first 100 customers” deals, holiday advertisements easily distract us from what this time of year is really about. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not knocking shopping. I, for one, LOVE to shop! I shop online, I shop at the store. Heck, I like to even talk about shopping. But the holidays aren’t just about being the first one in line with the golden ticket. It’s about giving from your heart and making memories with the ones you love.

After you digest the turkey and recover from fighting through the Black Friday crowds, make plans to shop small and local for Small Business Saturday or Cyber Monday.

But, don’t just shop – shop with a cause!

I recently discovered an amazing small business, Link of Hearts and I instantly fell in love! Founded by Elizabeth Tiglao-Guss after her own battle with depression, Link of Hearts provides dainty, understated accessories each with an encouraging message.

Maybe you know someone who’s gone through a tough time this year, or maybe you could use a boost yourself? Throw on a “string of hope” or gift a “bar of goodness” for subtle encouragement throughout the day.

The southern California company offers accessories and aromatherapy candles online or at their pop-up shops around town. There’s also an entire section just for him, because guys need to hear, you rock too!

Link of Hearts not only provides fashionable inspiration but they also “walk-the-walk” by partnering with mental health organizations.

Right now, 40% of the proceeds from every purchase of the “rest in grace” bracelet will be donated to the Grace Alliance West Coast organization.

You can also hashtag #OURSTORIESOFHOPE and share your testimony of inspiration with the Free and Above non-profit organization.

Most of us will admit, it feels good to give to others, but it feels AMAZING to give back! This Small Business Saturday or Cyber Monday, give the gift of hope. Learn more about Link of Hearts by visiting You can read their blog, learn more about the founder, and discover how you can share, connect, and inspire.

It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Good advice. I like to remind my friends to shop local. When I recently went birthday shopping for my wife, I started local to see what I could find there first.
I think it’s tough for small businesses to stand out on the biggest shopping season, with all the Madison Avenue hype thrown at us by the big corporations. Small businesses hire us too, so let’s support them.
